There are many ways to improve the look of your home and regardless of your experience in home decor, these tips will be useful in helping improve it. From buying living room sets to choosing carpeting, here are a few tips to making your living space more homely:

1. Lamps and Accessories- If you are very casual about interior decorating but would still like to improve the look of your rooms, buying lamps and small decorative items (photo frames, holiday ornaments, paintings, etc) are the easiest things to do. Not only can they be cheap, but also versatile in the way you arrange them around your home. What most people think is that this is a safe and easy installation, and the freedom they provide in mobility and versatility is great. These small items are all up to your own personality, and so people will not bash on your decor unless they just dislike your taste.

2. Paint your walls -The one thing that can distinguish a house full of life from a standard plain one are the colors of the walls. Depending on your own style and preference for the functions of your rooms, you may want to have different colored walls to fit the mood. A deep red can show a warm, inviting interior whereas a sky blue will alude to a calm, collected household. Painting your walls is not a difficult thing to do either, as you only need paint, ample aeration, and a little bit of elbow grease to get the job done. If you have small children in your home, try to use brand name paints upon the recommendation of a home improvement specialist.

3. Sofa covers- Don’t let this turn you off from home decor! Sure, it sounds like an old practice, but with the styles that are coming out nowadays sofa covers can be really useful in your home decor inventory. Using sofa covers can greatly help with your choice of themes if you want to diversify the look of your living room. For different seasonal or holiday themes, different colored covers can easily set a perfect atmosphere. The sofa cover will extend the life of your furniture, especially if you have active pets or children.

4. Wall decals- if you do not have the time or budget for painting your walls, then wall decals would be a great alternative. You can create whatever designs you wish while having the flexibility to redo them with ease. Wall stickers or attachable devices can complement the overall vibe of the room with great details

5. Add logs to your fireplace- the absence of logs in fireplaces is very commonplace and one of the easiest things you can do. Many homeowners have gas fireplaces and forget to decorate or adorn it with proper log pieces. You may even want to use your fireplace more after you see a more complete room coming together!

6. Living Room Sets – invest in a living room set appropriate to the theme of your home. For a modern theme, think about getting darker colored living room sets with hard arm corners. It is also important to know if you want a casual or classic look to your living room, as choosing between a sectional sofa and a sleeper sofa will make the difference in setting the tone of your household.

7. Sofa Pillows- For those awkwardly shaped sectional or sleeper sofas, sofa covers just will not work not matter how hard you try and so you need a different solution. However, an easy solution to this is obtaining sofa pillows! Neutral colored pillows will be easiest to implement in your home as they can complement most all sofa sets, though for uniqueness, there are many different patterns and colors available.

8. Flooring- This is a more difficult decidion, as choosing between different types is mostly personal preference.

9. Lighting- Proper lighting can really pave the way for a greater looking home. Even a simple lamp can change a boring household into an inviting interior. Buy energy efficient bulbs in order to save extra on your electricity bill.

10. Be Consistent- Not really a tip, but a reminder that you need to have a well composed home and, as such, have a similar theme or style across all rooms. If your kitchen and living room look like night and day, this may just give a confusing impression to your guests. So, it is important to maintain the same look across the whole house. Also, it is better to not renovate at all than to have a partially renovated home- unless your house is in progress for renovation, don’t try to pull off a “half modern half Victorian look”.

11. Extra Tip- Keep your home clean and maintained! It doesn. Hiring a maid service is on the rise, and especially consider one if you are single or work long hours- cleaning may not be a top priority and it will show when you have guests over. Clean weekly or hire a professional cleaning service, as long as your clutter and dust will be gone!

Just keep these in mind when renovating your home. They can all be adjusted to suit your needs and budget, and it is all up to you how much effort you want to put in. With these resources and tips, home decor can now be more afforadable and fun to do!
