Chlorine is Not Needed to a Clean Pool

If you want to maintain your swimming pool without using pool chlorine there are several ways.

Many people select other methods to keeping their pool clean because they don’t like the toxic nature and odor of water santised with chlorine.   Heavy use of strong chemicals on a regular basis is not environmentally friendly.  The feel and taste of a non-chlorinated pool appeals to a majority of people.

Salt Generators

Salt generators convert a tiny bit of added salt in the pool into chlorine.   Do not regularly add chlorine.  If the pool becomes dirty a treatment with chlorine or other oxidizing chemical will be needed. The ph tends to get high with salt generators so it needs to be monitored regularly. Decrease the ph with muriatic acid.

Because it burns off quickly in sunlight bromine needs to be added more often than chlorine, and is more costly, but it has no bad smell and is nice for delicate skin.    It continues to work after it has combined with harmful contaminants where as chlorine becomes deactivated.

Ozone

An active form or oxygen, ozone, reacts with pollutants.  Contaminants combine with ozone gas dissolved in water and oxidized them the same way as chlorine.   Because it makes them join together, they are easily removed form filters.  You can cut chlorine use by 60% to 90%.

Copper and Silver

That copper kills algae and silver kills bacteria and viruses is well known.   They have long been used for water purification.   With a very small amount of electricity copper and silver are ionized and react with the impurities in the water destroying them.

They also make the bacteria and algae clump together so they are easier to remove from the filter.   Regular swimming pool chlorineusage will be greatly reduced but a periodic shock of the pool with chlorine or a non-chlorine oxidizer will be needed.

Summary

Many people are tired of continually fighting algae, swimming on a regular basis in harsh chemicals, and paying for the amount of swimming pool chemicals needed to keep the swimming pool clean so they turn to alternate pool sanitizers.
